You guys thought I had died... I know...</h2>
Well... I wish I had a story to tell that would explain my lax of posting to this blog... Other than to say life has gotten in the way. <br />

Cute kitties, baking, cycling and work have all consumed most of my free time. What few minutes I had to myself were spent with my eyes closed hoping no one would need me for anything!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But I'm back and am going to give it another try. I have had lots of projects in the craft room to share so there's no lack of content... just lack of free time to share!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's some random photos from the last few months... and check back soon... I'm working on a craft post!</div>

WOW, they have GROWN so much and continue to push the limits. Heck, just this past Saturday, Ponch and Jon where playing in/with a box in the dining room (wood floor) and somehow Ponch took a tumble IN the box down the steps to the basement… While we don’t have any proof, we are pretty sure that Jon pushed the box over the edge! Ponch was a little dizzy at the bottom as he climbed out of the box, Jon was quite proud of himself! All I can say is, I’m glad they have kitty insurance!<br><br></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RWpNY6sDnyY/Vieq8qYR6SI/AAAAAAAAN6o/P9Ly3Gyau8E/s1600-h/2015-09-12%25252019.53.33%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="2015-09-12 19.53.33" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: left; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 20px 0px 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="2015-09-12 19.53.33" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-U28qgiq3Qx8/Vieq82nc0jI/AAAAAAAAN6s/0p2uSeQxlRw/2015-09-12%25252019.53.33_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="249" align="left" height="331"></a>They both love to nap in the oddest positions… Jon’s favorite is on his tummy with both back legs straight our behind him! Ponch likes to sleep right next to my face at night… try waking up to the alarm clock at 4:40 AM and get a furry paw in the eye!</p> <p>The two of them got ‘fixed’ a few weeks ago and they really put it on thick for the ladies at the vet. They just LOVED them… they sent them home with little certificates of bravery… what a HOOT! The vet tech said we would need to keep them calm for four to ten DAYS…YEAH!! we got them home and it wasn’t an hour and they where wrestling in the floor and jumping on the scratching post… 4 days… we didn’t make it 4 HOURS!!</p> <p>I hope things calm down with them… I’m not sure how much more this ol’ lady can take!!<br></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-w_hts_gnRrs/Vieq-SLIicI/AAAAAAAAN7E/WH6D3sUaDBA/s1600-h/2015-10-01%25252015.57.43%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="2015-10-01 15.57.43" style="border-top: 0px; After a career in the Navy, we got used to prioritizing what we talked about WHEN we did get to talk… After 20 years of marriage… it seems to be working!!</p> <p>So, I cut this out of a few scraps of vinyl I had in the craft room and installed it on the back door, so he can see it <em>every time</em> he heads out to work, even if I’m not there… He’ll know that I love him!!</p> Ang Russhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15096250130748795174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-646327441314071743.post-89028348894211900892015-08-13T16:28:00.001-04:002015-08-13T16:40:30.386-04:00Screening the Sun<p align="left"><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hegSVflI-nE/Vcz9tqfiZMI/AAAAAAAAN3E/3c3hlmJl1Jk/s1600-h/2015-07-03-12.07.439.jpg"><img title="2015-07-03 12.07.43" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: left; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 20px 0px 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Front Porch" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dsSg0Po-5cI/Vcz9t0tNmPI/AAAAAAAAN3I/vvas2nOQh1s/2015-07-03-12.07.43_thumb6.jpg?imgmax=800" width="267" align="left" height="354"></a>The summers here in the eastern part of TN can be kinda hot… and steamy. And while I can’t do anything about either, I do try to make the best of it! Our front porch is AWESOME! Truth be told, it is one of the biggest reasons we bought the house (that and the fact it has a pot rack hanging in the kitchen!) I like to spend time on the front porch in our rockers, I eat my dinners out there when I can. I like to take a book or magazine out there and enjoy the space… BUT… there was an issue with the late day sun, not just on the porch, but it would beam into the living room and make sitting inside (in the air conditioning) blinding! <br><br>So needed to find a solution. I have played with the idea of hanging a drop cloth type curtain on the end of the porch. Maybe I could grow some vines, wait, scratch that… I needed something that looked like it belonged, but still blocked the sun. Something to let the breeze through but not the rays… THEN, my friend bought a little ranch house with shutters on it. She didn’t like the way they made the house look, so she and her husband took them down. WIN for me! These are great shutters too, solid wood not the cheap plastic ones… I was so excited, well… for her, after all the house does look so much better without the shutters!<br><br>She brought the shutters over and they sat in my shop for a few months while my life got busy and I had no time to work on projects… sad, but that happens to me a lot. Good thing I don’t make a living off finishing projects around my house!! The needed to be painted, after all one side was red/brown and the other side white, well of course I wanted both sides to be white! My friend who<em> donated</em> the shutters to the cause got a new gadget for Christmas to spray paint with… it hooks on the end of a compressed air unit and sprays paint… I know! What will they think of next!! So we picked a date and I loaded the shutters up and took them back over to her place so we could ‘spray paint’ them! Here is Laurie working her spray painting magic!<a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LapCgrT57Ns/Vcz9uXU7bZI/AAAAAAAAN3U/t6WZANjOuOY/s1600-h/2015-05-29-14.51.416.jpg"><img title="2015-05-29 14.51.41" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: left; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 20px 20px 0px 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Spray painting" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H6njIM9y7qo/Vcz9u9g7wZI/AAAAAAAAN3c/3qxId6hn4tU/2015-05-29-14.51.41_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" width="179" align="left" height="237"></a><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DMa4ZP8LTM0/Vcz9vWqAVxI/AAAAAAAAN3k/ie32IgVNWIA/s1600-h/IMG_38225.jpg"><img title="IMG_3822" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: left; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 20px 20px 0px 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_3822" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zxvPx2OV1B0/Vcz9v348TpI/AAAAAAAAN3s/QnAYmqtaij4/IMG_3822_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="178" align="left" height="237"></a><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DYcE88xuiZ0/Vcz9wZZznJI/AAAAAAAAN3w/nEBv6cVJJiE/s1600-h/IMG_38237.jpg"><img title="IMG_3823" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: left; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 20px 20px 0px 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_3823" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rEobERvgYrY/Vcz9w2mDxMI/AAAAAAAAN38/o50kPHl9UUs/IMG_3823_thumb4.jpg?imgmax=800" width="178" align="left" height="237"></a></p> <p><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br>When the shutters where dry and travel worthy, she brought them back over to my house … where they sat in the shop for a few more weeks until I had an opportunity to gather the hardware to hang them from the existing beam on the porch. I’m not saying her husband is to blame, in his defense those 3 sons are a handful!! She let me know that if we were ready to be kitty parents again we had first pick of the litter… well, as it turns out I might have been the hold up all this time for us to jump into pet parent-hood. Mike has all for it! So I told her that we would claim 2 of the little bundles when they made their appearance… then we waited for them to be born… <br><br>April 19th around 5 in the evening I got the first text that the little ones were on the way! Our friend is an experienced animal person so she handled the birthing much better than I could (or would!) I’ll ask her to write about the event for you guys later… she’s a busy lady… remember I mentioned the 3 sons…<br><br>She sent pictures and the ooh’s and awwwe’s started… over the next few days and weeks she<a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jxtW3gfnRAw/VZQR1MXlFyI/AAAAAAAANxI/V1x10D1zKM4/s1600-h/IMG_3763%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 15px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_3763" border="0" alt="IMG_3763" align="right" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NIS0nW6Dgyw/VZQR1UsQlxI/AAAAAAAANxU/gRmVs9G0XP4/IMG_3763_thumb%25255B11%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="336" height="195"></a> and I would talk and I’d get updates of the litters progress. There were 5 in the litter, 3 brown tabbies, 1 gray tabby and 1 orange tabby. 3 boys and 2 girls (my friend figured this our in record time… I would have had to wait for more ‘evidence’!) In the pictures she would send, I noticed that the orange and grey ones stuck close together… when I visited them the two of them seemed to be buddies… so we couldn’t separate them… SO, we took the orange and grey tabbies!<br><br>So… we needed names now… we had already been tossing ideas around we settled on either Maverick & Goose or Ponch & Jon. So I posted on FB or two finalist and asked for feedback. A few of our Navy friends pick the Top Gun reference … But cop friends won out… it’s Ponch & Jon from the 80’s TV show CHiPS! Orange tabby is now known as Jon and Gray tabby as Ponch!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CNJZJyojvJ8/VZQR2L9Y1OI/AAAAAAAANxY/NYHUv9W-Smw/s1600-h/IMG_3794%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 15px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_3794" border="0" alt="IMG_3794" align="left" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-w1-bjyRSjF8/VZQR2cxw89I/AAAAAAAANxg/9mq30_yYFFc/IMG_3794_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="168" height="222"></a> <a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IVZFnw2rvhU/VZQR25Xe5kI/AAAAAAAANxo/GdDnKnrhqzA/s1600-h/IMG_3796%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 15px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="IMG_3796" border="0" alt="IMG_3796" align="right" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-toEIxkWGQBs/VZQR3Ih7jrI/AAAAAAAANxw/afOZ0zpI6OY/IMG_3796_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="168" height="222"></a>They came to live with us at 5weeks old (long story and one day I’ll share it) and promptly took over the house! They are now going on 12 weeks old and haven’t slowed down at all. They have 2 speeds… wide open and fast asleep! It has been challenging having two tiny kittens around again… you have to watch were you step… for fear of either stepping on a kitty or a kitty toy! And the all night races through the entire house is something I’m looking forward to ending (SOON!) You see my Great Aunt has recently decided to throw caution to the wind and leave single living behind her and move into a retirement community. She paired down her belongings and now resides in a cute little apartment… complete with wifi and Skype! She enjoys the trips and events the community has for them there and seems to be making new friends!<br><br><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VpjcrHZThN0/VT5jVUenUCI/AAAAAAAANr8/3kKXitTV9WU/s1600-h/Photo%252520Nov%25252028%25252C%25252012%25252023%25252016%252520PM%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 15px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Nov 28, 12 23 16 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 28, 12 23 16 PM" align="right" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-iMxLMEIuzqU/VT5jV-SqstI/AAAAAAAANsA/XqSBvvy9vYI/Photo%252520Nov%25252028%25252C%25252012%25252023%25252016%252520PM_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="324" height="245"></a>As for the piece of family history… I brought back a little rocker that I remember being in my Great-grandmothers house when I was little. My sister said that Aunt B didn’t have room for it and my sister couldn’t bear the thought of it being thrown away… so she brought it to her house… it was sitting in the middle of her living room and in bad need of a new covering and I offered to take it off my sisters hands and give it a home in my guest room. So we loaded it in the back of the truck and headed north. </p> <p>It took some time to get to work on the chair, with Christmas then New Years, then fabric selection/purchase, then snow, then schedule changes, then … you get the idea… I had some <br>prep-work to do on the chair prior to the re-covering project. I cleaned the years of grime and dirt off and used some scratch cover on the wood parts. it looked great just after a good cleaning!<br><br>Well then I was ready for my friend (who is an EXPERT furniture re-finisher) to come over and help with the project … In full disclosure, she did 90% of the work… I watched and used the staple gun! She removed the old pink striped material and showed me how to use it as a pattern to cut the new fabric. We cut the notches the same as the old fabric to make sure ours would fit the same. It went very quickly, the top corners where the only ones that caused trouble. But she got them to lay down nicely and we finished in no time!<br><br><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-28WQCbjh81o/VT6DdBCh93I/AAAAAAAANvU/A8Ko_k6HN5w/s1600-h/PhotoFeb11123205PM%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Feb 11, 12 32 05 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Feb 11, 12 32 05 PM" align="left" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--RKR8Vw_P9g/VT5jWnUjIUI/AAAAAAAANvc/kjZ-5YY9h6E/PhotoFeb11123205PM_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="138" height="179"></a><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s4LO2G34v6Q/VT5jXHRLyuI/AAAAAAAANuk/e6MGUUbtWHs/s1600-h/PhotoApr1721452PM%25255B1%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Apr 17, 2 14 52 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Apr 17, 2 14 52 PM" align="left" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Iw5x0AcSE80/VT5jXnozVgI/AAAAAAAANus/mAZ6Qbf01lI/PhotoApr1721452PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="134" height="180"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYcLr9b4G5JaQ-kK_q5JLjVvhlN1oJB9asHX1ofdDZnSMWJbZo7PVvd8GlBiuLSxmFB3LT26nQTiMCI9W7GIMDKEOZt73rPUbidfKO4gt3L7oAW8EUoy7mhIsSyvGDERUeii31hl4k0CRu/s1600-h/PhotoApr1730037PM%25255B1%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Apr 17, 3 00 37 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Apr 17, 3 00 37 PM" align="left" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_L3oL3d9vX8/VT5jYsbJYfI/AAAAAAAANu8/24dONRSDDLk/PhotoApr1730037PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="134" height="180"></a><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5dPCEP5kfgo/VT5jY6quCfI/AAAAAAAANvE/bTHABPLOuO8/s1600-h/PhotoApr1735114PM%25255B1%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Apr 17, 3 51 14 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Apr 17, 3 51 14 PM" align="left" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GbQgFuGg-oE/VT5jZaXQoNI/AAAAAAAANvM/rR0ouCpAG-0/PhotoApr1735114PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="134" height="180"></a><br></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><br> </p> <p> </p> <p><br> </p> <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" width="605"> <tbody> <tr> <td valign="top" width="306"><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dPpOG-2wBoo/VT6EeoobkHI/AAAAAAAANvk/UhgkrBzNf7k/s1600-h/Photo%252520Feb%25252011%25252C%25252012%25252031%25252045%252520PM.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Photo Feb 11, 12 31 45 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Feb 11, 12 31 45 PM" align="right" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V1xE1VUSZE4/VT5jbDSx8dI/AAAAAAAANvs/ApR6PNoULC4/Photo%252520Feb%25252011%25252C%25252012%25252031%25252045%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="234" height="311"></a></td> <td valign="top" width="297"><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_EwmLUCJ0jk/VT5jZjpe6oI/AAAAAAAANt8/TqVtI2oJLB8/s1600-h/Photo%252520Apr%25252017%25252C%2525205%25252049%25252056%252520PM%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Apr 17, 5 49 56 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Apr 17, 5 49 56 PM" align="left" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_Bb4vmERwzw/VT5jafKJjMI/AAAAAAAANuE/t_Vdnb3sZC8/Photo%252520Apr%25252017%25252C%2525205%25252049%25252056%252520PM_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="242" height="311"></a></td></tr></tbody></table> <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" width="605"> <tbody> <tr> <td valign="top" width="603"> <p align="center">Before and After</p></td></tr></tbody></table> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>Mom says that this little rocker is over 100 years old, my Great-grandmother got it when she got married in 1911. We have had snow, and thunder storms, and LOTS of rain. I’ve gotten the garden plants bought, but not in the ground… (see the comment about the rain!) I’ve made lots of cool things in the craft room and acquired a new (to me) table to refinish for our dinning room… more to come about that later…<br><br> A post from my blog reached a huge (for me) milestone… The Christmas gift I made for my sister reached over 200 pins on Pinterest! I am blown away at the number of folks that have pinned my post as inspiration! <a href="http://www.arussoriginal.com/2013/12/cricut-magic.html" target="_blank">You can see the original post here</a> …</p> <p>I really enjoy my time on Pinterest and love getting ideas from all over the world for everything from gardening to card lay-outs and sweet recipes to try; and am excited when a total stranger pins something of mine, not just a pin I re-pinned… but something that I MADE!<br></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-JO1qjNqghnI/VS7VrG2NaHI/AAAAAAAANqQ/i43SMiZ6N7M/s1600-h/Photo%252520Feb%25252021%25252C%2525202%25252021%25252020%252520PM%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Photo Feb 21, 2 21 20 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Feb 21, 2 21 20 PM" align="left" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-XgruP9VaF28/VS7Vr6aW89I/AAAAAAAANqY/w1CRLnFcFDs/Photo%252520Feb%25252021%25252C%2525202%25252021%25252020%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="385"></a></p> <h3> </h3> <h3> </h3> <h3> </h3> <h3>Now, on to the crafting update!</h3><br> <p>One snowy Friday afternoon, I broke out the sewing machine and proceeded to whip up a few coffee cup cozies. You can tell from the photo that I made more than a few! But, in my defense, they cut out and went together so easily… I couldn’t help myself… so I made a set for the house and a set for the office… and after posting a picture of my afternoon adventure, I had a few request from friends… so I made a few more for them!<br><br>Now, I am far from a seamstress… I need LOTS of practice, but I think they turned out pretty well! Here I used the Cricut to make a stencil out of inexpensive contact paper and used it to mask the bottom of the dish off to use the cream on… A few of my fellow crafty-type friends came over for a craft-night and we etched glass… one of the ladies completed a 9x13 glass baking dish just like this one… my other friend monogrammed hot chocolate mugs for her sons! We used the Cricut to make all the stencils. <br></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-iRwur9f227M/VNpg1TH_OAI/AAAAAAAANl0/88I5BS6a9gs/s1600-h/Photo%252520Nov%25252007%25252C%2525209%25252005%25252015%252520PM.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Photo Nov 07, 9 05 15 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 07, 9 05 15 PM" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-4rEkL_R60ew/VNpg19TLZ6I/AAAAAAAANl8/Khk89SKIeSg/Photo%252520Nov%25252007%25252C%2525209%25252005%25252015%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="384"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-OrssAQTybbw/VNpg2KphQWI/AAAAAAAANmE/_QfIlkhuRxY/s1600-h/Photo%252520Nov%25252007%25252C%2525209%25252005%25252027%252520PM.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Photo Nov 07, 9 05 27 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 07, 9 05 27 PM" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-vtezST00uLY/VNpg2oyEfqI/AAAAAAAANmM/4ZtMs8azu0U/Photo%252520Nov%25252007%25252C%2525209%25252005%25252027%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="384"></a></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-zqG12GH-gaE/VNpg23GxXcI/AAAAAAAANm0/Bik4Exw-aT8/s1600-h/Photo%252520Sep%25252026%25252C%2525203%25252021%25252003%252520PM%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Photo Sep 26, 3 21 03 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Sep 26, 3 21 03 PM" align="left" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-FRZ5K5Sf-wQ/VNpg3ZUgnAI/AAAAAAAANm8/HEShU3WOaiI/Photo%252520Sep%25252026%25252C%2525203%25252021%25252003%252520PM_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="134" height="178"></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-vyA-6uCK-EU/VNpg3ytrhOI/AAAAAAAANnE/J5LbNUV2i7M/s1600-h/Photo%252520Nov%25252025%25252C%2525209%25252029%25252041%252520PM%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 10px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Photo Nov 25, 9 29 41 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 25, 9 29 41 PM" align="right" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-B3IlNYK-_10/VNpg4c-64dI/AAAAAAAANnM/agnA537VsiA/Photo%252520Nov%25252025%25252C%2525209%25252029%25252041%252520PM_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="134" height="178"></a><br>Next is what seems to be my favorite use for the Cricut right now.. Getting gifts ready, cards made, assembling ornaments… and making wreaths! <br>Some might remember the post had a few months back about a new skill I found … <a href="http://www.arussoriginal.com/2014/08/new-to-me-wreaths.html" target="_blank">wreath making</a> …. Well, as it turns out those same friends asked if I would make wreaths for them to use as Christmas gifts! I was very flattered that then liked the first ones I made to return and ask for new wreaths, and to use them as gifts makes me smile!</p> <p>It took a bit longer to make these than I had hoped for… not because the process is lengthy or time consuming… it took a long time, because I have had TOO MANY PROJECTS going!!</p> <p> </p> <p>Here are the new wreaths… one for a UT fan and one for someone that can use it for both Christmas and with a bow change can use it for 4th of July!<br><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-AdtCzO-at_A/VHzOuqiN8II/AAAAAAAANbA/hlUgrlQnDG0/s1600-h/PhotoNov2082147PM2.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Nov 20, 8 21 47 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 20, 8 21 47 PM" align="left" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-U3ffS6DXydM/VHzOvL6TUUI/AAAAAAAANbM/SAk6Zdj91zo/PhotoNov2082147PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="385"></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-8cmJ_olmUiM/VHzOwEA1ykI/AAAAAAAANbQ/hgbLft2dfbM/s1600-h/PhotoNov2152150PM5.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Nov 21, 5 21 50 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 21, 5 21 50 PM" align="left" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-sC-ERZJc7Zc/VHzOwmELP1I/AAAAAAAANbY/AmntG1YP9TM/PhotoNov2152150PM_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="385"></a> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Now, I didn’t get a photo of the UT one finished… the ‘C’ was painted white and installed correctly… and I made a solid blue bow to go with the red chevron one for the 4th!</p> <p>While making all these wreaths I found a red burlap one on Pintrest that I liked and used it as inspiration for one of my very own! The brown burlap doesn’t do much for me, but the rich red color really stuck with me… so I gathered the supplies and got started!<br><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-rN50BcLoBKY/VHzOw3v5KOI/AAAAAAAANbg/pZYZWla7t_U/s1600-h/PhotoNov22110358AM4.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Nov 22, 11 03 58 AM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 22, 11 03 58 AM" align="left" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwVZ4BHOjMv1gj04gHJy_s8s-25vIpNiwV-fN4Pw7DGTMfsoN7Y3mFQruzrMdLzEcL7glOgqtFBPjpGeOqt4lPmtmVBxCBPUP9lWILryr2hEbxwxGQS6i6Yc-kXIStxxC9q3dU-jKYWJl3/?imgmax=800" width="204" height="267"></a> </p> <p>Most of you know I have a ‘thing’ for snowflakes. Our Christmas tree every year is covered in snowflakes, my husband finds me a new different one to add each year. Most of my Christmas cards include a snowflake of some kind… You’ll notice from this photo that my work table in the craft room has several snowflakes under the mat that I used as mock-ups for this years Christmas card. I’ll post a photo of them later on… I used a dollar store plastic snowflake to mount the ‘R’ on the wreath. It also has a bow made with blue/white snowflake ribbon. (I made it Red/White/Blue with out make it overly 4th of July, but it is still 100% me, patriotic through and through!) </p> <p> </p> <p><br><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Rz79X0DXPdQ/VHzOxgrWOsI/AAAAAAAANbw/gt4Qw114jXo/s1600-h/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525206%25252040%25252058%252520PM.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Nov 22, 6 40 58 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 22, 6 40 58 PM" align="left" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-CfqfqXa2P3w/VHzOyFh-vUI/AAAAAAAANb8/JZtUwYgjOKM/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525206%25252040%25252058%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="192" height="254"></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-9YLmlChpENk/VHzOyp_W_aI/AAAAAAAANcA/3nPk378y254/s1600-h/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525206%25252041%25252021%252520PM.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Nov 22, 6 41 21 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 22, 6 41 21 PM" align="left" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-C8Q2xycU79g/VHzOy8wmbVI/AAAAAAAANcI/4eJgbDj_tPY/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525206%25252041%25252021%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="192" height="254"></a><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Nov 22, 6 41 14 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 22, 6 41 14 PM" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-I6rdK70kwIU/VHzOznjO51I/AAAAAAAANcY/EwiNuaSssm8/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525206%25252041%25252014%252520PM_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="192" height="254"><br></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-9YLmlChpENk/VHzOyp_W_aI/AAAAAAAANcA/3nPk378y254/s1600-h/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525206%25252041%25252021%252520PM.jpg"></a> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <h3 align="center">Here it is hanging on our front door!</h3> <p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdCMPKh0emhnbqA9sKQFXBtk93BmJTIMOOkNlPVYnAnVcefZnpXowKJeTuK1NxiiN5W2Co_-JVCNi2IOp2H9xd-rZBol_fWKCe0Cxf8ojjfNUbF06tPJZvbbJJV2O07k7yNYzaCjZ3a-dO/s1600-h/Photo%252520Nov%25252029%25252C%2525202%25252050%25252049%252520PM%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Nov 29, 2 50 49 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 29, 2 50 49 PM" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-39bHgDxoVgg/VHzO0ldnEPI/AAAAAAAANco/zSMmuAz_ATk/Photo%252520Nov%25252029%25252C%2525202%25252050%25252049%252520PM_thumb%25255B9%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="524" height="706"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-VJ-FVYTxp2I/VHzO0wgzzZI/AAAAAAAANcw/lJJSM8NPX9A/s1600-h/Photo%252520Nov%25252029%25252C%2525202%25252051%25252038%252520PM%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Nov 29, 2 51 38 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Nov 29, 2 51 38 PM" align="left" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-tLYlOWyLfWU/VHzO1RwW8RI/AAAAAAAANc4/kdSszOpmTTk/Photo%252520Nov%25252029%25252C%2525202%25252051%25252038%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="385"></a> I also made a tomato cage tree for the flower pot that welcomes folks at our front door… not to shabby for an old cage and a few old strings of garland! It wasn’t anything special… a 5 dollar clock from my local Target store and a few stickers to tell others where in the Y it belonged… I decided its replacement needed to make a statement… it needed to say without a doubt that it belonged in the spin studio … somewhere, if not at the local Y, maybe in the spin studio of someone with a firm understanding of a five finger discount!</p> <p>So back to Target to pick up another 5 dollar clock and home to give it some personality! I took the WHOLE thing apart this time, no more just adding to the OUTSIDE of the clock to tell folks about it… I opened it up and placed on the face, for the world to see, a cut of a BIKE and the words ‘Spin Studio’ emblazoned across the top!! (if someone wants to take this one… they better love my choice of decor!)<br><br>Enjoy these in-progress photos!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-fWUzH_0CUis/VG4UYJDpGhI/AAAAAAAANYI/2pKd1soyY1M/s1600-h/Photo%252520Jun%25252008%25252C%2525204%25252001%25252040%252520PM%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; Yes, I know while it’s not flashy or trendy… it was functional. And if I am anything, I am functional! But with this in mind… I wanted to have a system that was re-usable, something that I wouldn’t have to re-write each year, something that I could add other projects to it and keep up with everything in a single calendar format.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-v6VZxeMG194/U_zOUndY3rI/AAAAAAAANRI/JsRQogAH1ME/s1600-h/Photo%252520May%25252002%25252C%2525204%25252037%25252058%252520PM%25255B1%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Photo May 02, 4 37 58 PM" border="0" alt="Photo May 02, 4 37 58 PM" align="left" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-3u2ocP5RJig/U_TetO8divI/AAAAAAAANRM/bCTPvsp2dXg/Photo%252520May%25252002%25252C%2525204%25252037%25252058%252520PM_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="336" height="436"></a></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><br><br><br>So one rainy afternoon, I sat down at the craft table and put together this cute little ‘Celebration’ calendar. </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>It was shortly after I had made <a href="http://www.arussoriginal.com/2014/07/scrap-success.html" target="_blank">the scrap box</a>, so I had lots of large scraps, so I used them as the monthly sheets. I had printed out the months with the dates on a half of an 8 1/2” x 11” sheet. using the corner slot punch I made slots to place the calendar sheets. The back of the previous months sheet will be used to leave sticky notes about non-birthday card projects, like the Christmas Card design project! </p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:66721397-FF69-4ca6-AEC4-17E6B3208830:310ae62e-5cfb-454f-bce4-fd0d7e3fc529" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent"><a style="border:0px" href="https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=d430a1fee9c96630&page=browse&resid=D430A1FEE9C96630!1513&parId=D430A1FEE9C96630!269&type=5"><img style="border:0px" alt="View celebration 1" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-_Cg_hhj30XQ/U_Tet7GR51I/AAAAAAAANQk/FXQNKWXH_Ko/InlineRepresentationb36e1f56-45d8-4923-8572-74683f51173a%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" /></a><div style="width:562px;text-align:right;" ><a href="https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=d430a1fee9c96630&page=browse&resid=D430A1FEE9C96630!1513&parId=D430A1FEE9C96630!269&type=5">View Full Album</a></div></div> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:66721397-FF69-4ca6-AEC4-17E6B3208830:b339cd63-a8d3-4413-a7e3-83acf2302674" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent"><a style="border:0px" href="https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=d430a1fee9c96630&page=browse&resid=D430A1FEE9C96630!1518&parId=D430A1FEE9C96630!269&type=5"><img style="border:0px" alt="View Celebration 2" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-h0886R3C508/U_TeunKqhQI/AAAAAAAANQs/47XxanAWfDk/InlineRepresentationa4c73e4a-6582-4246-86c2-ca2ca1c94e88%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" /></a><div style="width:560px;text-align:right;" ><a href="https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=d430a1fee9c96630&page=browse&resid=D430A1FEE9C96630!1518&parId=D430A1FEE9C96630!269&type=5">View Full Album</a></div></div> <p></p> <p>Projects are one schedule with my new celebrations calendar!</p> Ang Russhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15096250130748795174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-646327441314071743.post-61110905972733207842014-08-20T13:08:00.001-04:002014-08-22T21:21:44.197-04:00New to Me ~ Wreaths…<p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-TVkb9BGWbLQ/U_TVyq-QPSI/AAAAAAAANN8/lZhDaNeqljg/s1600-h/Photo%252520Jun%25252027%25252C%2525206%25252004%25252001%252520PM%25255B10%25255D.jpg"><img title="Photo Jun 27, 6 04 01 PM" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 10px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Photo Jun 27, 6 04 01 PM" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Dx8e-8UHJqo/U_TVzlSGuXI/AAAAAAAANOE/a2kd_bWCPL4/Photo%252520Jun%25252027%25252C%2525206%25252004%25252001%252520PM_thumb%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="224" align="right" height="295"></a> In most of the circles I move in, I am known as a crafty person… for some reason…Some of my friends call me ‘Martha’ … they all think I’ve gotten some talent for all things crafty!<br>Recently I had a friend send me a note with a picture of a wreath and said that I was the only person she knew that could pull it off, very flattering for me… but I had never made a wreath before!</p> <p>So, I headed out to the Hobby Lobby to see what I could get into… I found a book there on wreaths… so I stood there in the store and read through it. No, <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/175218241727042387/" target="_blank">then here… go check it out and then come back</a>… we’ll wait for you… OK, when I first saw that, I wanted to put it on my door that afternoon! I loved it… but I wasn’t sure my husband would love it as much… so I waited a little while to let my excitement for it die down (just a bit) and I randomly asked if he’d be opposed to me giving the front door a fresh coat of paint and adding a little personalization to it after the paint cured… he said sure go ahead! </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-9DwtLxolOFY/U9Fip12aB2I/AAAAAAAANCs/7WZzW0fZ76U/s1600-h/PhotoMay0244222PM5.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo May 02, 4 42 22 PM" border="0" alt="Photo May 02, 4 42 22 PM" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-ubX6aPA3obg/U9FirMCnC3I/AAAAAAAANCw/xVaqZdAjrLQ/PhotoMay0244222PM_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="236"></a> Well, that was all I needed to hit the ground running! I got to work on the cricut to locate the font I liked… then, I was like,”‘why stop at ‘welcome’” … I have a cute set of kitty cut files for the cricut… I found the <em>purrfect</em> one for the door… after all, we are kitty folks why not share with (or warn) visitors our furry friends that occupied the house too!<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-V0OzqxWu2zI/U9FirjX2xVI/AAAAAAAANC8/0E8WTVnzyoM/s1600-h/PhotoMay1723500PM4.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo May 17, 2 35 00 PM" border="0" alt="Photo May 17, 2 35 00 PM" align="right" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-kNa209TNv8o/U9Fisj5kiiI/AAAAAAAANDE/vMBx_RZtDHM/PhotoMay1723500PM_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a></p> <p>After a trip to the hardware store to locate the paint for the door, I ordered the right shade of (traffic) blue and (light kitty) gray vinyl for the greeting and waited till the week my husband was going out of town on business. … I got the door painted the first Friday afternoon and had plans to have the cuts made and on the door before he got home the next Friday… that was until about Wednesday… when it dawns on me that he took the laptop with him and I had no way of cutting the vinyl out till he got home!</p> <p>Needless to say, I was a little miffed that I couldn’t finish the project before he got home… even though I had to wait… I finally got the new greeting installed on the door and Mike loves it too! <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-9P_MYJM1rqw/U9FitRZ27zI/AAAAAAAANDI/sIqXty80-ak/s1600-h/PhotoMay1724116PM7.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo May 17, 2 41 16 PM" border="0" alt="Photo May 17, 2 41 16 PM" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-ODVr2veOoA4/U9Fit0PcIDI/AAAAAAAANDQ/0KOT1ERKxQg/PhotoMay1724116PM_thumb5.jpg?imgmax=800" width="599" height="464"></a> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--jdczHm4ao4/U9FiukTNayI/AAAAAAAANDY/JCVQ-MMcQ2o/s1600-h/PhotoMay1724156PM2.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo May 17, 2 41 56 PM" border="0" alt="Photo May 17, 2 41 56 PM" align="left" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-X8qL3B1JdVk/U9FivYN3-FI/AAAAAAAANDg/NP3K80ZBxVA/PhotoMay1724156PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="385"></a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/--oNcEz04hZA/U9Fiv7_HNjI/AAAAAAAANDs/lyqXJ_XC5qQ/s1600-h/PhotoMay1724150PM3.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo May 17, 2 41 50 PM" border="0" alt="Photo May 17, 2 41 50 PM" align="right" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-a1lCFCNmEJA/U9FixO0l_gI/AAAAAAAANDw/vdkTLsNbEMI/PhotoMay1724150PM_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="385"></a></p> Ang Russhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15096250130748795174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-646327441314071743.post-66949034625010717272014-07-08T16:46:00.001-04:002014-07-08T16:46:32.682-04:00Scrap Success!<p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-QxKP6Iz59Rw/U7xYlXgmRdI/AAAAAAAANA0/gzF_sx_1T5E/s1600-h/PhotoFeb2780829PM3.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Feb 27, 8 08 29 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Feb 27, 8 08 29 PM" align="left" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-so9jg-CANJg/U7xYmK3rKII/AAAAAAAANA8/5VJKeWKYckE/PhotoFeb2780829PM_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="305" height="234"></a>Over the years I have accumulated thousands of pieces of ‘scrap’ paper. Pieces that are to small to make a card out of on their own… but big enough not to throw away. Everything has a purpose … right? I know, those are the famous last words of every hoarder on the planet… but trust me when I say that you will NEVER see me on an episode of that A&E show… However, my ‘scraps’ had gotten out of hand… to the point that it was impossible to find pieces to use on any project… I stored them all jumbled together in a clear 12x12 envelope … it was a HOT MESS! Something had to be done. </p> <p>So I cleaned out one of the photo boxes I used to store craft supplies in<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-m3wUYTgCNGQ/U7xYmyX2GNI/AAAAAAAANBA/F_mIHWyA9jE/s1600-h/PhotoFeb2780836PM%25255B1%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 5px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Feb 27, 8 08 36 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Feb 27, 8 08 36 PM" align="right" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-s5O2-vFn4EM/U7xYnZ4Aj8I/AAAAAAAANBI/zrMAbq0-Lms/PhotoFeb2780836PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="230" height="286"></a> (I got some news ones at Ikea… another post) and got to sorting… the easiest way I figured was by color … Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet … then there was white and black… and brown (I know they aren’t technically in the rainbow… but hey!) the box determined the size a ‘scrap’ had to be to fit inside, so I got the paper trimmer out and got to work… and bits of paper smaller than 3x3 were ‘outta here! At first it was hard to toss the tiny scraps out … what if I needed to make a tiny flower, or what if I wanted to make a shadow line for a frame… what if… exactly!! it was liberating to let them go! </p> <p>After about an hour I had a nice neat USABLE stash of ‘scraps’ for my projects. It seems to be working very well, too! I have consulted the ‘scraps’ box on several projects since the purging… I liked it so much that I even went through the patterned paper ‘scraps’ and organized them in the back of the same box, so now I have ONE place to go to the find color coordinated bits to use!</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-uEcEdJx0rm4/U7xYoQAsJsI/AAAAAAAANBQ/3CnwTOlXzjI/s1600-h/Photo%252520Jun%25252019%25252C%2525208%25252000%25252048%252520PM%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Photo Jun 19, 8 00 48 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Jun 19, 8 00 48 PM" align="left" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-P1_91qOSwks/U7xYpMwq02I/AAAAAAAANBY/4zC1mvOf_zU/Photo%252520Jun%25252019%25252C%2525208%25252000%25252048%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="385"></a></p> <p>Here’s the completed box of scraps on the shelf … right above the pens I organized in <a href="http://www.arussoriginal.com/2014/06/pens-everywhere-and-not-one-that-works.html" target="_blank">this post</a> … I completed this project a few weeks back and have had a chance to actually USE scraps from the box to complete projects… feels good to be able to put those little pieces of paper to work!</p> <p>I am on a mission to get a little more organization going on in the craft room… look for more organization post coming soon!</p> Ang Russhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15096250130748795174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-646327441314071743.post-42333312988941870762014-06-18T17:38:00.001-04:002014-07-08T16:39:21.820-04:00Pens everywhere and not one that works!<p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-xFipZUAzv94/U6IGqYvxw8I/AAAAAAAAMtw/fRH1RXRTmTw/s1600-h/1382270_10200841362571684_6614193_n%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 5px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="1382270_10200841362571684_6614193_n" border="0" alt="1382270_10200841362571684_6614193_n" align="right" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-1BlO4XBHbBk/U6IGrq9ck6I/AAAAAAAAMt4/U9JXswRg2CE/1382270_10200841362571684_6614193_n_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="256" height="329"></a> I know that I have a pen/pencil problem … there I said it … isn’t admitting the problem the first step to recovery? It has been going on for YEARS! You should see the cup of pencils on my desk at the office. I use mechanical pencils every day I am at work and know if one is missing and not in its appointed place when the day is over… everyone has something right… I have pens & pencils…</p> <p>The trouble in the craft room started when I when to use a sharpie that had been stored on its side in a box of pens (kind like my ‘scraps’ it was a mess!) well, you can imagine that it didn’t make a dark mark like it should have… if it had been stored up-right on it’s head! I had seen a few pins on Pintrest about how to make all kinds of projects with toilet paper tubes… Now, I’m not one to spend months collecting TP tubes to make a flower art piece for the living room wall … but I found an idea for a pen/pencil holder. I cut the paper towel tubes in half for this… the TP ones where the perfect height for the outer ring… I wrapped each tube with a nondescript plain piece of paper (mainly because I didn’t want to see the little bits of TP that you can’t get off the glue they use on there!) <br><br><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-GB3KcUkx_wY/U6IGtAtZ0GI/AAAAAAAAMvw/8WT4KqDCvtE/s1600-h/Photo%252520Feb%25252007%25252C%2525204%25252025%25252026%252520PM%25255B13%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Feb 07, 4 25 26 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Feb 07, 4 25 26 PM" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-F5Op2LEoq74/U6IGuF0uPJI/AAAAAAAAMv0/pShm-DgsbxM/Photo%252520Feb%25252007%25252C%2525204%25252025%25252026%252520PM_thumb%25255B11%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="138" height="174"></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-x3jU97K5jX8/U6IGuoUJ-jI/AAAAAAAAMv8/Tw1S9asHoVw/s1600-h/Photo%252520Feb%25252007%25252C%2525204%25252035%25252017%252520PM%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Feb 07, 4 35 17 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Feb 07, 4 35 17 PM" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-UzX1DR7XSQw/U6IGvjw4-iI/AAAAAAAAMwE/l9R8gHx6HLc/Photo%252520Feb%25252007%25252C%2525204%25252035%25252017%252520PM_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="133" height="174"></a> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Once all the tape and paper had been applied the end product was pen nirvana! I’m NO artist and I don’t see my paints going for millions after I’m dead and gone (although that would be cool!) but I have learned that I enjoy it! I get to spend the evening with my friends laughing and cutting up… and trying not to let my OCD’s get the best of me! </p> <p><br>During each of these outings I have made an effort to let loose and have fun… the first time I went, I worried about every line and how chubby my birds had gotten, how hard it was for me to make a straight line free-hand… then, it was like a light bulb went off… the instructor stated something I say all the time, just in a different context… “it’s not wrong, it’s just different!”</p> <p> </p> <p>IT’S NOT WRONG… IT’S JUST DIFFERENT… while I said that for years about directions to a address, about the way someone details a wall section, or the way instructions are written… I’ve said that about anything, someone else did or does … I had never applied to MYSELF. I have for years dealt with things having to be ‘perfect’ … not by anyone’s standard other than my own. I spend DAYS cleaning our house when we are having people over, everything on my desk in a certain spot before I leave in the afternoon, including the office chair… I could go on, and on… and on… but these painting classes have helped me understand that it’s ok if it doesn’t look like the master, it’s something that I have applied myself to do. It makes it truly A Russ Original… and I like it! <br><br><br><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-vOedJpbpDOE/U5HezFufXVI/AAAAAAAAMoQ/RCpM8GAvj20/s1600-h/Photo%252520Apr%25252022%25252C%2525207%25252003%25252028%252520PM%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; So, I though it best to do a winter re-cap to post what I’ve stayed busy with the last few months… and get ready for the garden planting!</p> <p>First, was the Ladies Tea at church. The last few years I’ve helped my friend and neighbor with her table… this year I wanted to give her a chance to just relax and enjoy herself… so I offered to take care of the decorations for her table. She is a elementary school teacher and has enough on her plate herding little ones all day! <br>So, I hit Hobby Lobby the day after Thanksgiving for inspiration… and with my love of snowflakes … it didn’t take to long to find the perfect start!<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-yKmfr91FoCo/UyisbEKJ90I/AAAAAAAALV0/Vma-0mDClwQ/s1600-h/Photo%252520Dec%25252003%25252C%25252012%25252048%25252034%252520PM%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Dec 03, 12 48 34 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Dec 03, 12 48 34 PM" align="left" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-OIcmQCiry_Q/Uyisb8_0xfI/AAAAAAAALV8/GC8GxGyTOXM/Photo%252520Dec%25252003%25252C%25252012%25252048%25252034%252520PM_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="294" height="222"></a> </p> <p>This little ornament caught my eye… and they had just enough… TEN… So I put them in my buggy and headed out to find the rest of the table… I found bows in the gift wrap section to set the ornaments on (so they wouldn’t roll around the table!) Next, I needed a center piece that was festive, provided some light and wasn’t so big that we couldn’t talk to the ladies on the other side of the table…<br></p> <p><br><br><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-b2D-ANOQxTw/UyiscvO94BI/AAAAAAAALWE/AN8a40G-SjA/s1600-h/Photo%252520Dec%25252003%25252C%25252012%25252049%25252026%252520PM%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Dec 03, 12 49 26 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Dec 03, 12 49 26 PM" align="right" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-C4PXkdcFHpw/UyisdAMuAvI/AAAAAAAALWM/0LJHSP1aeYQ/Photo%252520Dec%25252003%25252C%25252012%25252049%25252026%252520PM_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="385"></a>I came across an end cap of pillar candles and thought they would be great… now what to put them in… I KNOW! My Pampered Chef trifle dish… I had been combing Pintrest for inspiration and saw where someone had pulled off a flower arrangement in hers… I thought… WHY NOT! So I snapped up a few candles and headed over to the berry garland aisle to look for something to cover the base of the trifle dish… SCORE!<br>I had already picked up enough of the wrapping bows to add a little filler to the base. Just had to find something to use as filler for the trifle bowl… what to use, what to use… Hobby Lobby had some nice tiny snowballs made out of Styrofoam… I got a back of those, but latter decided that a burning candle and Styrofoam might not be the best combo for the ladies tea… at Church! So, I opted for fresh cranberries… I think it turned out great!<br><br><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-JC1jpUtS7CY/Uyisd02MFwI/AAAAAAAALWQ/nOO-XUe_ZJo/s1600-h/Photo%252520Dec%25252003%25252C%25252012%25252049%25252006%252520PM%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Dec 03, 12 49 06 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Dec 03, 12 49 06 PM" align="left" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-gD9iAQ1ltOg/UyiseSQ4E8I/AAAAAAAALWY/ss25oRtm8YM/Photo%252520Dec%25252003%25252C%25252012%25252049%25252006%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="290" height="385"></a><br>I finished the table off with red plates with snowflakes and little white boxes with peppermints in them. I tied them up with red ribbons and tags with snowflakes on them!</p> <p>The table looked great and the ladies seemed to like it. This year I’ve made all kinds of cool things with it, cards, banners, tags, stencils, snowflakes… But my favorite thing so far has to be a gift I made for my sister for Christmas this year!</p> <p>My sister is quite the baker and takes her treats all over town, to others to enjoy, whether its the girls meeting or a family dinner, she likes to share her confections with everyone. I had come across a Pin that showed the etched bottom of a glass 9x13 pan and thought that would be cute to make for her… But the more I thought about it the more I talked myself out of making it. The 9x13 would limit her to using it for brownies or dump cakes (which she does bake these) but I wanted to do something special for her cakes and cupcakes … </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-4lQFXM8pgHY/Ur3nkgY_PkI/AAAAAAAABeU/0a-WxlA21GQ/s1600-h/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525207%25252059%25252032%252520PM.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 5px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Oct 14, 7 59 32 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Oct 14, 7 59 32 PM" align="right" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-3TVQU0tqxjo/Ur2ildJTe-I/AAAAAAAABeY/hr-0PM3h_kg/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525207%25252059%25252032%252520PM_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="197" height="152"></a>Then, Inspiration hit while enjoying a leisurely stroll through my local Michael's Craft store… I came across a display of Wilton cake carriers and then it hit me… why not use the Cricut to personalize it with Beth’s name using the black vinyl. But why stop at ‘just’ her name… I needed to get some cool creative juices going…. so I was tinkering around on the Cricut Craftroom program on night and found a really nice ‘B’ that I thought would be nice to use a focal point on the carrier…</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-xQZAzTl-73w/Ur3nmJgafTI/AAAAAAAABgY/DqKrCwbCre0/s1600-h/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525207%25252056%25252007%252520PM%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Photo Oct 14, 7 56 07 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Oct 14, 7 56 07 PM" align="left" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-NkwOvYgVcT8/Ur3nnAMJEDI/AAAAAAAABgg/ksgKnacWsrs/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525207%25252056%25252007%252520PM_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="345" height="452"></a>After I placed the ‘B’ on the layout the rest just came to me! so, “look what Beth brought” was born! And it looked GREAT! (I know, I’m partial!) I used the B for both her name and the word brought… </p> <p>I played with the size to make sure it would look nice on the carrier and sent it to the Cricut to cut it out of the black vinyl. After cleaning up the extra pieces of vinyl I used the transfer tape to move the vinyl letters to the side of the cake carrier.<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Jz-SGSO3TQo/Ur3noRGaoZI/AAAAAAAABes/wExG1ivkm-g/s1600-h/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525208%25252015%25252053%252520PM%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Oct 14, 8 15 53 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Oct 14, 8 15 53 PM" align="left" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-jEG46FRh0bk/Ur3nowF9wUI/AAAAAAAABe0/QxZwf1XQ0jw/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525208%25252015%25252053%252520PM_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="183" height="146"></a> <br></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-hgIzUkN3IQY/Ur3npXioW3I/AAAAAAAABe4/UHHL2zDrzWw/s1600-h/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525208%25252015%25252046%252520PM%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Oct 14, 8 15 46 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Oct 14, 8 15 46 PM" align="left" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKe62R28ALfmhFMtKxG9hgf7uq44FqhOgeKn0aLDRTBw5pYx3JB7168JhEumDHJDJRTjBmdf06hRRUgzTlPOybKsNTFChI1qpyeYG9VehAk9U2Xx9thfpasSS_tuCPleLoma4kg53tSNsB/?imgmax=800" width="294" height="222"></a></p> <p>It took some wiggling and finesse to get the B to lay flat and the rest to behave… I got lucky and didn’t have any air bubbles to fuss with!</p> <p>I did give her a few cautionary instructions… Like not to wash it in the dishwasher, or scrub on the vinyl like it was a dirty rag… it will need a damp cloth wipe down when it’s a dirty… I sent it down to her for Christmas and she sent a note back saying that she loved it and was looking forward to using it! Makes me happy to know that she will enjoy it! </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-cJmUDT3nsvw/Ur3nrrRJPII/AAAAAAAABfU/wW86NbxyuGA/s1600-h/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525208%25252016%25252042%252520PM%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Oct 14, 8 16 42 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Oct 14, 8 16 42 PM" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-jTwy4ubX7JA/Ur3nskHtBNI/AAAAAAAABfY/Vx-Ui1LsncQ/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525208%25252016%25252042%252520PM_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="537" height="412"></a> </p> <p> <br> </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-t5JgYZn1gWE/Ur3ntH0zvLI/AAAAAAAABfc/-JQpbOMNnSQ/s1600-h/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525208%25252016%25252053%252520PM%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Oct 14, 8 16 53 PM" border="0" alt="Photo Oct 14, 8 16 53 PM" align="left" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-wdAp1p0BzWA/Ur3nthWwJsI/AAAAAAAABfk/yQ5qOsWnYg8/Photo%252520Oct%25252014%25252C%2525208%25252016%25252053%252520PM_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="228" height="299"></a> </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-TUQ2ZYP49CI/Ur3nudbZWbI/AAAAAAAABf0/9onp_KgXNYo/s1600-h/Photo%252520Oct%25252015%25252C%2525208%25252046%25252038%252520AM%25255B10%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="Photo Oct 15, 8 46 38 AM" border="0" alt="Photo Oct 15, 8 46 38 AM" align="left" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-dIjwFvblnMk/Ur3nvN4XLvI/AAAAAAAABf4/1d02364orXo/Photo%252520Oct%25252015%25252C%2525208%25252046%25252038%252520AM_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="299" height="299"></a></p> Ang Russhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15096250130748795174noreply@blogger.com1
